About Us

When Hurricane Andrew hit Florida in 1992, we inspected several roofs and noticed that only houses with metal roofs had survived with the least amount of damage. That's when we decided to specialize in metal.

Not all roofs are the same, and when it comes to metal, each roof is custom-made, from the panels down to each flashing.

At PDF Roofing, we do not use sub-contractors and pride ourselves on the quality of craftsmanship our team is capable of.

Metal Roofing Benefits

Longevity

Metal roofs will last, on average, 30-40 years, depending on the material and location. Traditional asphalt shingles have an estimated life expectancy of only 12-20 years in Florida’s harsh environment.

Safety

Metal roofs will not spark and ignite into flames during a wildfire or lightning strike, significantly reducing your chance of losing your home here in the lightning capital of the world.

Environmentally friendly

Metal roofs not only have 25-95% recycled content, depending on the material used but are also 100% recyclable at the end of their life. In contrast, most shingle tear-off waste ends up as part of the building-related waste stream — up to 20 billion pounds per year.

You can sleep easier knowing that your investment is helping out our planet.

Why Metal?

With the rising cost of homes today, it would only make sense that homeowners want to protect their valuable investments. Here is why a metal roof is a wise choice.
Storm Durability
The recent hurricanes proved what common sense has been telling us for years: Metal Roofing performs better than any other popular application. Also, a metal roof will, for the most part, be just as wind resistant when it's many years old as it is when it is new. That is not the case with standard shingles. Some insurance providers even offer discounts to homes with metal roofs.
Long Life
An asphalt roof is merely fiberglass soaked in petroleum-based chemicals. It starts to deteriorate as soon as it goes on. Exposure to our Florida weather - rain, wind, and the sun's ultraviolet rays - means you'll likely have to reroof every 5 to 15 years. Throw in some extreme weather, and you may have to re-roof sooner than you think. On the other hand, a metal roof can withstand decades of abuse from extreme weather conditions such as hail, saltwater exposure, wildfires, and winds up to 178 mph.
Energy Efficiency
Metal roofs are reflective, transferring the sun's radiant energy away from your home. Metal roofs are energy efficient and mainly used in "cool roof" applications. Cool metal roofs feature heat-deflecting coatings that decrease unwanted heat build-up inside a building, thereby reducing cooling loads. PDF is proud to offer cool roof technology to our customers.

Why PDF?

With all the benefits of a metal roof, they can be lost with a poor installation. Here is why choosing PDF is another wise choice.
Exclusively Metal
If you needed heart surgery, would you choose a surgeon who performed everything from a foot operation to a face-lift, or would you want a heart specialist? Here at PDF, we are metal roof specialists.
No Sub-Contractors
A typical practice in the roofing industry is to subcontract the installation of a roof to non-employee crews that get paid by the square foot. The faster the installation, the more money they. Here at PDF, we do not subcontract our labor out.Our roofs are installed by experienced craftsmen who are employees. This allows us to monitor the quality of workmanship and ensure every worker is properly insured.
Reputation & Experience
In over 35 years in the industry, owner Paul D. Furr has built a reputation for quality and dependability. For 18 years, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Sarasota Manatee Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association, of which he has been president for 3 terms. Paul served as chairman of the Government Affairs and Disaster Preparedness & Response Committee. Then, he also was a Vice-President of FRSA. "State of Florida Roofing Contractors Association."
Specialties
Anyone can fasten a roof panel on a straight plane, but what separates the "Anyone" from a quality roofer is their ability to install metal flashing (Hips, Ridges, Valleys, Sidewalls, etc).

These are the critical areas in leak prevention. This is where PDF excels.

We also have our own sheet metal shop where we can custom fabricate flashing to current codes or custom specifications.

Examples of our work

Residential Homes

When it comes to roofing, we believe that metal is the best choice for Florida roofs. It has many benefits compared to other roofing types, from its high wind uplift strength to being the most energy-efficient roof possible.

Commercial Buildings

This is an excellent example of a TPO roof-over project. In this type of roof, a new roof system is installed over the existing roof, saving the owner a significant amount of money.

Flat Roofs

A lot of houses have more than one type of roof. This shows a reroof of a home with a mix of flat and pitched roofs.
I had a large and complicated roofing job with several subcontractors involved. PDF has a very professional crew that does top notch work. When there was a problem with the roofing material, they were able to source an entirely new batch at no charge! If you need roof work in Sarasota area, this is the only company to call.

Ah, it's always great news to be told you need a new roof. A million things go through your mind, with the first being. OMG, how much is this going to cost and who is going to try and take advantage of me...we did the obligatory 3 quotes, all of which were "ok". None too high, none too low... but we weren't wowed by any of the companies either. All of our quotes were for shingle roofs, and we'd always said we'd like a metal roof but were concerned with cost, installation, etc. Then we met PDF Roofing. They spent time with us educating us on the pros/cons of each type of roof. They discussed our options knowing our budget, made recommendations and ultimately provided us with a quote. Their quote was well organized, easy to read, and fair. We had some questions which they answered quickly. We ultimately went with PDF Roofing for our new roof. Yes, it's a little more expensive than shingle, but well worth it. Paul and his team have been nothing but professional and I would recommend then to anyone looking for a new roof, customer roofing or roof repairs in the Sarasota / Bradenton Areas. Great job PDF Roofing!
